iD Tech: Find Top Courses & Training Locations

At iD Tech, high school students can learn programming in semester-long programs and at in-person summer camps. Students can also register to study coding 1-on-1 with personal tutors. Scholarships for students from underserved communities help to make tech education affordable.

Describing itself as the first camp where young learners can get an education in technology, iD Tech has over two decades of experience helping kids and teens learn STEM skills for the future. In 1999, co-founder Alexa Ingram-Cauchi started the school with the support of her co-founding mother Kathryn Ingram-Cauchi, after Alexa won the inaugural University of Washington business plan competition as a college student. Alexa’s brother Pete Ingram-Cauchi soon joined the enterprise as CEO. The school’s philosophy, reflected in its original name, revolves around “internal drive, ” helping motivated students to advance their tech education. In 2020, iD Tech added year-round virtual education options to their catalog of offerings. In 2021, Emeritus acquired iD Tech, allowing the school to continue its mission-driven opportunities for students underrepresented in technology. The school offers a range of scholarships and educational opportunities for girls and Black and Latinx students in partnership with big names in technology and business such as Daymond John and The Shark Group, as well as NVIDIA, Salesforce, and T-Mobile, in addition to education powerhouses including Howard University, MIT, and NYU.

School Locations

Students can study iD Tech programs in-person at a wide range of locations around the United States. The school partners with local universities and colleges where students can attend iD Tech summer camps, including Columbia University and NYU in New York City, Georgetown and Howard University in Washington, D.C., and UC Berkeley and Stanford University in California. Students can also take iD Tech courses fully virtually.

Subjects Taught at ID Tech

Between iD Tech summer camps and online programs, students can choose to study a range of subjects such as graphic design, programming, web design, and robotics. With Noble Desktop’s Classes Near Me tools, students and parents can locate additional opportunities for high schoolers to learn subjects such as coding (in-person or live online) and graphic design (in-person or live online).

Age Requirements

Programs for students ages 7–19 are available to study at iD Tech. Most courses target students by grade division: Grades 2–5, middle school, and high school.

What Classes Are Available?

The catalog of courses and private learning classes at iD Tech is substantial, offering students the opportunity to study coding, game development, design, entrepreneurship, math, robotics, photography, and video. Students can study 3D modeling or printing with Autodesk Maya or Blender. Options for learning Adobe After Effects, Animate, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Premiere are also available, including photo editing classes and digital illustration lessons. Students can study game design and development using tools such as Minecraft, Roblox, Godot, Oculus Quest, Unity, and Unreal. Coding and web development classes allow students to gain skills in C++, Microsoft Excel, HTML, Java, JavaScript, Python, and Scratch. Computer science, data science, machine learning, and cybersecurity classes are also available, including a prep course for AP Computer Science. Additionally, lessons in robotics allow students to develop experience with tools like micro:bit, Sphero BOLT and RVR, and VEX Virtual Robotics. Girls ages 10–15 also have the option of studying STEM subjects in Alexa Café, an all-girls summer camp featuring an all-women instructional and support staff.

Class Formats

Students with iD Tech can choose to study in-person at one of the school’s many higher education partners for summer programs, or live online for academic year programs. The school offers three primary online program formats: flexibly scheduled 1-on-1 lessons, 10-week small group semester classes, and 10-week bootcamps for high school students. Online bootcamps meet for two hours, one day per week, with a range of days to choose from. In-person summer programs typically last one week, and students can choose to attend their program as a day camp or as a sleepaway camp. Semester courses typically have just five students per class. Summer camps also emphasize small class sizes.

Admissions Process

All program offerings at iD Tech run on a first-come, first-served registration basis. No application is required for students to enroll in a class, camp, or private instruction.

Pricing & Payment Options

Summer camps at iD Tech typically cost between $1,095 and $4,095. Class prices depend on the subject and whether they are 10-week courses or bootcamps, ranging between $649 and $1,799. Private lessons can be bought individually or in groups starting at $60 per class. Multiple scholarships are available for students from a variety of backgrounds, including girls and Black and Latinx students. Some scholarships are reserved for students from select locations; students in Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, New York City, Overland Park (Kansas), and Seattle have additional opportunities available to them.

Benefits of Attending ID Tech

Summer program students at iD Tech have the opportunity to build portfolio pieces for their college applications. High school bootcamp students can earn a certification upon successfully completing their course or course track.

Over the years that the school has been operating, students and parents have reviewed the programs at iD Tech. One parent praised the quality of education that students receive, saying, “I was so impressed with the [photo and video] editing [my child] was able to do … after only a couple classes.” Though iD Tech started running online courses only in 2020, students and parents are already reporting the benefits of remote instruction. One family said, “We appreciated the time flexibility that allowed [our child] to participate even though we are living in Germany.” Additionally, a student, whose review is shared on iD Tech’s website, positively described the online curriculum and learning environment, saying, “The interactive learning was spot on, and my instructor engaged us incredibly well.” Some summer camps may not be ideal for accelerated learners, but many parents report that their students describe the summer camps and online courses as entertaining and engaging.
