Cyber Patio: Find Top Courses & Training Locations

Since 2021, Cyber Patio has been instructing students in UI design and digital product development. Programs are all part-time, and most programs run live online. At the end of bootcamp-style programs, students have the opportunity to participate in a portfolio review for the job market.

Cyber Patio describes itself on Twitter as “a post-COVID 21st century school born to challenge the future of education.” Founded in 2021 by Margarita Solovyeva, a UX Designer, Cyber Patio aims “to bring a future-relevant education while solving present problems by collaborating with NGOs and other solidarity and sustainability initiatives.” The school takes its modern stance very seriously. Recently, Cyber Patio offered a learning experience up for sale as an NFT (non-fungible token) in exchange for the cryptocurrency Ethereum. It has also embarked on several ventures that embody its mission to increase diversity, inclusion, and solidarity in the field of technology.

School Locations

Cyber Patio is based out of Barcelona. However, all of Cyber Patio’s courses are fully online and may therefore be taken from anywhere.

Subjects Taught at Cyber Patio

Cyber Patio currently offers three courses: UI Design and Front End Development, Digital Product Design, and an elementary Foundation HTML, CSS, and JavaScript course. A fourth course that will focus on cryptocurrency and NFTs (non-fungible tokens) is currently in development.

Students researching their learning opportunities can use the Classes Near Me tool from Noble Desktop. The database allows students to find and compare web design and web development programs around the globe. A novelty of the Code Patio program is that it teaches both those fields as part of one course, without students’ needing to choose between them.

What Classes Are Available?

The Code Patio UI Design and Front End course is a ten-week program that meets Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings for two and a half hours each session. The curriculum seeks to bridge the gap between design and coding by exposing students to skills in both. Following a pre-course phase that enables students to hit the ground running in the first class, the curriculum encompasses UI design fundamentals, responsive web design, and design and storytelling. Then, students progress onto traditional front end development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

The Foundation HTML, CSS, and JavaScript course enables students to develop essential coding and programming skills. The course focuses on teaching students to build their own websites, starting from scratch and seeing them through to going live on the internet. The class lasts six weeks and also meets Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

The Digital Product Design class runs for eleven weeks on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. It focuses on developing a new product, with considerable emphasis placed on UX and UI design principles especially.

All classes conclude with a portfolio review session with guest mentors to help graduates prepare for the job search process. Cyber Patio can also arrange for 1-to-1 classes with any of their teachers. These are designed to allow students to study the topics they choose at their own pace.

Class Formats

All Cyber Patio classes are taught online, on evenings and Saturdays (Barcelona time; GMT+2.) The pre-course work is self-paced and on-demand. After that, all instruction is live online. Instruction is conducted in Spanish and English.

Admissions Process

Prospective students can register for courses at Cyber Patio by filling out a brief online application and paying a €120 deposit. There are no formal interviews for admission.

Pricing & Payment Options

Cyber Patio’s scheduled courses are priced at €1350 each (approximately $1425). Scholarships are available to eligible students from underrepresented immigrant populations impacted by war. Students interested in 1-to-1 training sessions should contact the school for pricing.

Career Support Services

Mentoring and soft skills are integral to the Cyber Patio educational philosophy. All classes include a workshop on portfolios to prepare students for the job market. Aside from that, no formal job search assistance is included with Cyber Patio programs.
