Motion graphics (or motion design) is a growing profession with its roots in video editing, animation, and graphic design. Creating engaging and meaningful motion graphics requires a technical knowledge of the software programs involved, as well as a knowledge of motion graphics workflow, an awareness of current and past visual styles and trends, and an ability to critique our own work and those of our collaborators.

More About this Motion Graphics Bootcamp

In this in-depth motion graphics course, you'll create several projects for your demo reel, including (but not limited to) a logo animation, a social media ad, an infographic animation, and a book or movie trailer. This course is a self-driven, project-based course designed to support you and enhance your skill set as you work to develop original, high-quality projects for your demo reel. Students receive ample one-on-one support from the instructor as well as targeted lessons that are centered upon the projects that they are creating.

Each day, the instructor sets high-level goals and provides inspiration and guidance, but much of the learning takes place through discovery, as determined by each student’s individual goals and creative direction. For example, while everyone in the class may be working on an animated logo, they’re each working on different logos, focusing on different components of that project type, and different strategies for getting their chosen logo to appear on the screen.

Assignments will be critiqued by both the instructor and during group critiques. You'll then revise your work as needed, and finish the assignment either in class or outside of class as homework (you should expect to work outside of class). By the end of this Motion Design Bootcamp, our hope is that you'll have at least three finished motion graphics animations for your demo reel. The instructor is available throughout the course duration, to provide feedback and advice, both during and outside of class.

Ideally, a student enrolling in this course should have taken After Effects Bootcamp and After Effects Advanced, or work regularly with the software. Basic skills in graphic design and video editing are also recommended.

This course has a prerequisite
