Learn how to create perfect drops in your level two piping plan, even when the floors don't line up perfectly with your sprinklers. This step-by-step guide will show you how to align drops to sprinklers using a section view and plan view, ensuring effectiveness and precision in your sprinkler system planning.
Key Insights
- The article demonstrates how to add drops to branch lines in a level two piping plan, taking into consideration that floors may not align perfectly with the sprinklers on each level.
- By deleting all the drops first in a plan view and carefully selecting the right areas, it is possible to align the drops to the sprinklers effectively. The process involves deleting the drops, typing 'AL', and ensuring everything lines up to the center of the sprinkler.
- The article emphasizes the importance of precision in creating perfect drops, as even a slight misalignment can interfere with the automatic connection of the system.

Let's continue by adding our drops to our branch lines. We'll go to our Level 2 piping plan. Now we saw before that when bringing components from one level to another, the floors aren’t arranged in a way that allows them to line up perfectly with our sprinklers on each floor.
We saw that we had to align the drops to the sprinklers when we were in our section view. We can also go about it this way. Let’s go to our plan view and delete all of the drops first.
Let me zoom out and show you the area we're working in. I'm going to start right here. I want to zoom in and make sure I don't grab the sprinkler.
This is grabbing the elbow and the vertical pipe, so I'm going to delete it. Then, I'm going to type AL and select the sprinkler and then the arm over.
Now when I get to placing my drops, they'll drop perfectly. What I need to do first—before we get to that—is delete the drops from all of the sprinklers in these branch line areas we brought in. Again, you can skip ahead or watch this part, but let’s get to that point and then continue with drawing our drops.
Now I'm going down one branch line at a time. After I delete the drop, I will type AL. And just to double-check, make sure it’s aligned exactly to the center of the sprinkler.
Okay, this branch line is done. Let’s move on to the next one, and then on to the final branch line. Now a lot of them look like they’re lined up, but they could be off just slightly—enough that they won’t connect automatically.
Now that we’ve got them all aligned, we’re ready to create our drops.
