Designing an Efficient Sprinkler System: Step-by-Step Guide for Proper Installation

Efficiently Installing Sprinklers and Piping in a Classroom Setting

Delve into the complexities of constructing a sprinkler system, from locating the proper positions, drawing pipes, aligning sections, to adjusting work planes. Navigate through potential installation challenges while getting a sneak peek of what it would be like in the field.

Key Insights

  • The article guides you through the intricate process of setting up a sprinkler system. It includes identifying suitable locations, drawing pipes, and adjusting sections for an efficient flow.
  • Installation on the field can be challenging and tedious, highlighting the importance of meticulous planning and accurate mapping beforehand.
  • The article also emphasizes the need to adjust work planes and correct alignment issues to ensure the sprinkler system functions optimally.

Let's go to this row. We're looking for this sprinkler right over here. Drag it out, line it up, and draw a pipe.

Okay, there we are. We are almost at the end of this run. Okay, now we have an offset at this sprinkler here, so we'll have to have our section facing the other direction for that one, so we might as well place it now.

Okay, let's find that sprinkler on our section. We're coming through this pipe, so I'm going to pull it up just a bit. There we go.

I have my fitting. I'm going to click it and draw a pipe. Not quite aligned, so AL.

Now, if you think this is tough and tedious, imagine being in the field and installing all of this. So you should decide which one you prefer, but both aspects are definitely not easy in their own respects. Okay, there's that sprinkler there, so we'll go to this section, and in this case, we are very close.

So there are a few things that we can do. We can go over, draw a pipe down. Let's go one foot.

We can go back over again, add a small swing joint and align twice. Now this extra filler piece allows enough room to move over, and it looks like we need to connect this. Okay, one more.

Let's connect this sprinkler and the next one to the main, and we'll be at a good stopping point. It looks like my section is cutting through this piece of pipe, so let me pull that back. There we are.

All right, it's connected. Let's move on to this sprinkler and connect it to the main. First, I'll pull my section down here.

Now, what we can see going on here is our sprinklers are actually hosted to the wrong portion of the ceiling. Be careful if you see something like this. Luckily, all we need to do is click on the sprinkler, and right here, we can flip our work plane, and now we're back to pendants facing down.

Let's look for those. I think this has happened to this area of the ceiling when we brought these sprinklers in. All right, let’s confirm that.

Let's pull back. Most of these are okay, but in this situation, at this higher-elevation ceiling, we’ll flip that work plane, and let's just check these last two. Okay, now this sprinkler here, let's connect that to the main, and here we are.

Great. In the next video, we're going to wrap up all of our piping and sprinklers in the classroom areas, and then we will move on to other areas of the building.
