Explore the specifics of pasting and removing attributes in Premiere Pro, a skill vital for anyone pursuing a career in film editing or visual effects. This coverage explains how to alter clip attributes such as rotation and scale, manipulate color curves, and apply changes to multiple clips.
Key Insights
- Attributes in Premiere Pro include elements like scale, rotation, and color correction. These can be altered individually for each clip.
- After adjusting attributes on one clip, these changes can be copied and pasted to another clip. This is done by selecting 'Paste Attributes' after right-clicking on the desired clip.
- When pasting attributes, users have the option to select which attributes they wish to paste. For example, you can choose to paste color changes but not scale adjustments.
- In contrast, unwanted attributes can be removed from a clip by selecting 'Remove Attributes'. This option also allows the user to specify which attributes to remove.
- Occasionally, attributes like opacity and time remapping may default on or off. The reason for this is unclear, and it's something Adobe might need to address.
- Understanding and utilizing these attribute controls is a crucial skill in video editing and can help streamline the editing process significantly.
In this tutorial, we'll learn about pasting and removing attributes in Premiere Pro. The video demonstrates how to copy attributes, paste them onto a clip, and then remove attributes if desired. We also reflect on how opacity and time remapping are sometimes on by default, and sometimes not.

Hi this is Margaret from Noble Desktop. Today we are looking at pasting and removing attributes in Premiere Pro. You can do many things to one clip and decide that you like it, and simply want to add it to another clip. So here, we have the same view of this shot. I'm going to enlarge it a bit, rotate it a smidge for stylizing, and then visit my Lumetri scopes.
I'm going to use the curves and boost up the shadows a bit, and boost up some of the higher mid-tones. I've made changes in motion, increased the scale and changed the rotation, and I also made changes in the Lumetri Color panel. Now, I would like this view to match the color but I don't want to change the scale, so I'll copy the attributes (cntry/cmmd + C). I'll go over to the clip, control-click and say paste attributes (keyboard shortcut Option + Command +V). I have the option of adding motion and the Lumetri Color, but I don't want to change the scale, so I'm going to uncheck motion.
Now, the only thing pasted to that clip will be the Lumetri color. But I kind of regret changing the scale, so I'm going to control-click and say remove attributes (keyboard shortcut Option-Command-X). I'm happy with the color correction but I want to remove the scale. Now, opacity and time remapping are defaults that sometimes are defaulted on and sometimes aren't. So, I'll just leave it as a big question for Adobe to ponder.
