This intermediate course deliberately spans two audiences usually trained separately: enough technical grounding for people who build and configure web applications, and enough plain-language framing for the system owners, security officers and program staff who oversee them without writing code. The shared vocabulary is the point — a system owner, a security officer and a developer taking this course together come out able to talk to each other, which is what actually speeds up security reviews. There's no lab and no technical prerequisites, so the course can be assigned to oversight staff and developers alike; all interactivity is scenario-based, framed as "given this situation, what is the most appropriate action."
Every topic is anchored to a real policy and standards landscape. Module 1 covers security risk management frameworks and the system-authorization process, a major executive cybersecurity order, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 — including the rarely taught skill of recognizing when a policy has been superseded. Module 2 organizes around the OWASP Top 10 (2025 edition), focused on recognizing risk over writing exploit code; the course then moves through the secure development lifecycle, the Secure Software Development Framework, identity and access control with Zero Trust and FIPS-validated encryption, and closes on monitoring, logging and incident reporting. A graded final covers all five modules at 70% to pass, with unlimited retakes.
