Discover the process of designing architectural elements such as doors, grids, mullions, and panels in a detailed and systematic manner. This comprehensive guide details the steps involved, providing insights into the best practices and the complexities of such tasks.
Key Insights
- Before adding any mullions or adjusting any panels, it is essential to set out precisely where you want all of your grids. This level of detailing makes it easier to work with the curtain wall.
- When inserting a door, the 'load Autodesk family' feature can be utilized to insert specific door types, such as a curtain wall double door, into the project.
- After setting up the curtain wall for the entrance, the direction of the door swing can be verified in plan view, paving the way for working on actual floor plan views, including elements like room names, door tags, and more.

Now we're going to go ahead and add the door and to do that I know that I want a six foot wide double door here and so if I want it to be split in the center then I can add curtain grids with half the distance on these and I want to use the one segment here so I can put one in at this point and because I want it to be three feet plus half a curtain wall mullion that means it's going to be three foot one and a quarter so three space 1.25 for three foot one and a quarter and then I can do the same thing on this side. I do want you to notice that we are going through and we're setting exactly where we want all of our grids before we add any mullions and before we adjust any panels because it's just so much easier to work with the curtain wall at this level of detail than it is when we've got everything on there because as you saw when we were working with it before you know we were having to hit TAB a ton of times to get to each one of these things and we just don't want to do that so I'm going to go in here I'm going to select this curtain grid because this again this is going to be our door and I'm going to use the add remove segments to remove it and now we're ready to start embellishing this a bit and I want you to notice how much work went into getting to this point. I really don't think it's that much considering now we're just ready to rock and roll there's not a lot of finagling that's going to need to happen and so here this is a door that we need to load in so I can go to insert we can do the load Autodesk family and we'll reset the filter so we can get back to the home base here and I'll go to doors and we want this curtain wall double and I'll click load now that's in the project I can go ahead and select that panel and I can change it to the curtain wall double storefront with that setup correctly I can now go in and I can go to architecture tab mullion make sure I have the right mullion type I'll go with the two and a half by five and set it to all grids and then I can add the mullions to all the grids here and we might get an error and that's fine and that's really has everything to do with the fact that we have this edit profile happening but we can go in and we can now delete the mullions we don't need which are these two and when you have a door type like this you want to make sure you select them both so that you delete them both at the same time because this can't be like a flag shape like I was trying to make it there just a second ago and now we have the curtain wall set up for our entrance and so if we look at it in plan we just want to make sure the door is swinging the right way which it is so I'll go ahead and delete these two working dimensions and now we're ready to start working on our actual floor plan views including everything on the second floor so things like room names and room tags and door tags and that kind of stuff
