Explore the process of designing architectural walls in the software. The detailed instructions include the specific measurements needed for offsetting and trimming the walls, ensuring the accuracy of the design.
Key Insights
- The article follows a step-by-step process of designing a bathroom wall, including the vertical and horizontal components. Specific measurements such as 5 feet 9 inches and 5.5 feet are provided for offsetting the walls.
- The article emphasizes the importance of precise measurements and the consistent use of the 'enter' function in the software to confirm each step.
- The process of trimming the walls is also thoroughly covered, with additional instructions on selecting the right edges and clearing out the unnecessary lines.

Now let's begin to work on the walls for the bathroom. If you check your handout, you will see that the wall, which is the vertical wall here, is 5 feet 9 inches from the exterior face of this wall.
So let's offset a distance of 5 feet 9. Enter. I'll go from the exterior face here to the right and click. Enter to say I'm done.
Enter to go back in. The width of that wall is 5.5. Enter. Remember, this is our wet wall where our plumbing fixtures are running through.
So I will click on the wall, go to the left, and click. Enter to say that I'm done. Now if we check our handout again, we can see that the horizontal wall that runs here is 5 feet 9 and one-half inches to the interior face of the bathroom from the exterior of the building.
So let's offset: 5 feet 9.5. Enter. Choosing the exterior face here, going up, and click.
Enter to say I'm done. Enter to go back in. 3.5. Enter.
Click and go up. Click. Enter.
And finally, remember that there needs to be a line here for the top of the wall, and that is 1 foot 4 inches, or 16 inches, from this bottom line here. So I'll go offset: 16.
Enter. From this line, showing the upward direction, click. Enter to say that I'm done.
Now let's trim these walls. Again, I want to choose my cutting edges or else I will be left with a whole lot of geometry all over my drawing. So I'm going to go trim.
- Enter to establish my cutting edges. I'm going to choose a crossing window starting here, moving down and to the left, and grabbing both of these walls. Notice my crosshairs are ending inside the wall.
That will grab 7 total objects. Enter. Now I can start to trim out these lines.
I'll pick all of the lines inside my wall first. Then I can clear this out and this out. Now I'm left with these exterior lines, and they are 1,1; 2,1; 2,3; and then 3 on the inside.
1,2; 3. Enter to say I'm done. Zoom extents and Control + S to save. In the next video, we will add our window and door openings.
See you there.
