Explore the process of setting up a standard screen configuration by dividing the screen into one-third and two-thirds segments. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this using the NoPlotViewFull file, adjusting drawing title areas, and creating a balance between the building elevation and roof plan.
Key Insights
- The article focuses on creating standard screen configurations by dividing the screen into one-third and two-thirds segments. This includes adjusting drawing title areas and creating a balance between the building elevation and roof plan.
- The process includes opening the NoPlotViewFull file, creating and dividing lines, using the Divide command, moving lines, and adjusting the base point of the drawing to 0,0. The user must then save and rename the file accordingly.
- After creating the one-third drawing, the user can undo the steps to return to the initial layout before saving it as the two-thirds variant. The final step involves reinserting the adjusted views into the Working01 drawing and adjusting their positions for a perfect fit.

Another configuration that is very standard is to have the screen broken into a one-third segment and a two-thirds segment. In fact, we're going to be using this later on in our course project, where we will have the building elevation in a one-third horizontal viewport and the roof plan in two-thirds. So you can see, like before, we have two drawing title areas, one down there and one up here.
So here's what I'm going to do. Let's go File, Open, and let's open our NoPlotViewFull, and we'll do the top third first. I'm going to go File, Save As, and let's save it as NoPlotViewHorizontalOneThird.
I will draw a line from the mid of the top to the mid of the bottom, and I will move the line from an arbitrary base point. I put Ortho on and drag it over to the right. Once again, I need to accommodate the space for yet another drawing title area.
So I will click the line, click the grip, drag my mouse up, make sure that I'm in Ortho, type in 0.5, Escape, Control-S to save. I now want to divide the line. When I divide, I'm actually placing points on a line.
So I have the Divide command. It's on the Draw panel. I have to expand it, and I choose Divide.
I select the object, this line, and I read the prompt. It says how many segments. I will go three and then Enter, Control-S to save.
So I will now draw a line from the node, which means point, over here, straight across, again Ortho on. I will go Stretch, do my crossing, Enter to say I'm done, from the end down here to the intersection up here. I will now erase the line and the nodes, and we need to move it into position because the base point of the drawing is 0,0. If I were to draw a line from 0,0, you can see that it's right there.
So I will draw a line from the end to the end, Enter to say I'm done, and I will say Move Crossing, Enter to say I'm done, from the midpoint here down to 0,0. I will Zoom Extents, Zoom Real Time, and I will erase out the diagonal line, Control-S to save. Now, I'm going to be doing a little bit of cheating. You have to remember that right now we are in the No Plot View Horizontal Third drawing.
If I go Undo, so I'm just going to go U Spacebar, U Spacebar, U Spacebar, I'm doing Undo, until I get back to this point before I stretched it. I will now go File, Save As, and I will save the drawing with the name No Plot View Horizontal Two-Thirds, and I'm going to go Save, and replace the file. I'm now going to move this line from the end of the line to the node at the bottom, and I'm now going to Stretch Crossing, Enter, from the end of the bottom to the intersection here.
I will now erase out this information, draw a line from the corner to the diagonal corner, move Crossing from the mid of the angled line to 0,0, erase out the line, Zoom Extents, Zoom Real Time, and save the file. So again, I was in the drawing for drawing one-third, I got it the way I wanted it, and I saved the file. And then I Undid to a point before I had all my stretching going on, and I saved it with the new name Horizontal Two-Thirds.
So I will now save this file. To make sure I've gotten everything right, I'm going to go back to my Working 01 drawing, I'm going to erase out the full No Plot View, and I will say Insert, Browse. I'm going to start off browsing and choosing my No Plot View Two-Thirds, specify on screen, place it there, Home tab, Move, from the end of the bottom left to the end of the drawing view.
I'm then going to say Copy, I'll choose my drawing title, copy it from there up to here, hit Escape, go back to the Insert tab, the Insert command, go to Browse, choose my Horizontal One-Third, and specify insertion point on screen, bring it in, and then I will Move, Home tab, Move, from the end of here up to here. And you can see that everything is perfect. We now have all of our configurations that we're going to need established.
The next thing we're going to do is to go back into our model file and to bring the No Plot View full size into the model so we can begin our dimensioning process.
