  • About Coding
  • Corporate

Coding skills unlock career opportunities in software development, data science, and web design, with Orlando-based employers like Electronic Arts and Disney seeking expertise in Java and Python. High school students can jumpstart their careers by enrolling in courses such as Java Coding & Game Development or AP-focused Computer Science Certificate programs.

Key Insights

  • Coding professionals must master multiple programming languages, particularly Java and Python, which are valued for their clear syntax and strong community support, making them ideal starting points for high school students.
  • Orlando hosts leading technology-focused employers, including Electronic Arts, Lockheed Martin, and Disney, providing internships and full-time roles for coding experts in software engineering, Python programming, and web development.
  • High schoolers looking for specialized training can attend in-person courses at iD Tech or comprehensive virtual programs like NextGen Bootcamp’s Live Online Computer Science Summer Certificate, which covers Python data science, Java programming, and AP Computer Science exam preparation.

Learn More About Orlando Coding Courses

Coding is an essential skill today in nearly every job sector, from data science to web, application, and software development. Coding is the part of programming that deals with converting languages into commands. Websites, software, and apps will not work without it.

Coding professionals typically must have knowledge of multiple programming languages, like Python and Java. High schoolers interested in coding often start with one of these, as their simple syntax and large support communities make them easy to learn.

If you want to start coding, you should choose a class that matches your reason for taking it. While many students learn Java or Python as part of a broader computer science curriculum, others prefer to study a single tool like HTML, CSS, or the WordPress content management system (CMS). Learning to code can be valuable in many careers, but the choice of which skills to learn is yours alone.

Why High Schoolers Should Learn Coding

Orlando is home to multiple pro sports teams, the best-known being the Orlando Magic, where Shaquille O’Neal began his pro career. But sports video games have become nearly as popular as the real thing, and these companies need coders, from Software Engineers to Python Developers.

If you want to begin a career path in software engineering, web development, or computer science, Orlando offers a host of opportunities. Companies as diverse as Electronic Arts, Lockheed Martin, and Disney have all been known to advertise for employees with coding expertise.

If you know how you plan to move up in your career, a course focused mainly on Java or Python may be sufficient. On the other hand, an in-depth certificate program might be your best bet, especially if you plan to sit for the AP Computer Science Exam.

Many students learn coding as preparation for computer science or data science college courses. It is smart to begin now if you know you are college-bound and planning to study further there.

Of course, not everyone learns coding for a particular career path. Some students take coding classes to prepare for part-time jobs, paid internships, or seasonal work. Many companies in Orlando offer summer internships to students with skills like Python, Java, and PHP.

Finally, as a tool to list on college applications or resumes, coding is hard to beat. These skills are always in demand, whether or not you use them in a college course or a career.

In-Person Coding Classes in Orlando

Currently, the only school offering in-person coding courses for students in Orlando is iD Tech. Since 1999, they have offered numerous tech classes in major metropolitan areas around the U.S., with locations in Orlando, New York, and Chicago, to name a few. Their Java Coding & Game Development and Code Apps with Java courses are available in-person at the Orlando campus and are open to students ages 13–17.

For other coding options, consider enrolling in a fully online live class you can take from anywhere, Orlando included. If you want to search for in-person training only, you can check back on the full list of in-person Orlando coding classes for high school students for updates.

Virtual Coding Classes

Orlando students who want to study coding live online will find a wealth of choices. Virtual training provides several advantages: it is live like in-person classes, but students can study from the comfort of home and submit assignments remotely. Experienced instructors offer real-time answers to questions and can see or even control the screen—with permission, of course.

Coding courses for high school students in Orlando include several virtual live programs from NextGen Bootcamp, a partner of Noble Desktop, which hosts this search tool. Their Live Online Computer Science Summer Certificate offers in-depth training in Python data science and Java programming and helps students prepare for the AP Computer Science Exam. Additional subjects include Matplotlib, scikit-learn, and Pandas.

High schoolers can also learn Java through the Live Online Java Programming Summer Course or Python through the Live Online Python Data Science Summer Course. Students looking to learn web design can get their training through the Live Online Web Design Summer Course, which covers HTML, CSS, and Adobe Sketch.

How to Choose a Coding Class

Ready to start coding? Your choice of coursework will depend largely on your goals. If you want to learn Java or Python—or both—you may want to look for a computer science or data science certificate. A growing number of students enroll in full-scale summer programs to learn, while others choose shorter workshops. Cost is important to many families, and coding classes run from $1,099 for a beginner-level machine learning class to $3,695 for a comprehensive computer science certificate. The length of the course, its degree of difficulty, and whether it is offered in-person or online only can be important considerations as well. Check for age requirements too, as some classes are only open to students under 18. Whichever option you choose to study coding, the skills you learn can help you in a college curriculum, a summer job, or even a career in the computer science or data science field.
