The goal of the Video Editing & Motion Graphics Portfolio class and the included mentoring sessions is to help students create a capstone project.
In design education, a capstone project is a culminating assignment that allows students to apply the skills, knowledge, and techniques they’ve learned throughout their program to a comprehensive, often self-directed project.
Capstone projects have several key features:
- Integrative: Combines various aspects of the curriculum, such as research, concept development, prototyping, etc.
- Self-directed: Students choose their own topic or problem to solve, giving them creative freedom and control over the final result.
- Portfolio-worthy: The project is designed to be a showcase piece for a professional portfolio.
- Real-world relevance: Capstone projects should be based on real-world design problems. Some even involve collaboration with external clients or organizations.
In the Noble Desktop Video Editing & Motion Graphics Certificate program, students are taught how to edit video in Adobe Premiere Pro, animate motion graphics, and composite video with Adobe After Effects.
Deliverables
- Project Plan
The project plan is a roadmap that helps you figure out what you are making, what steps you need to take to make it, and the schedule and steps for completion. - Moodboard
The moodboard is a visual collage that shows the look and feel of your project before you start it. It helps you figure out and show things like colors, look and feel, typography, etc. - Style Frames & Storyboards
Style frames are still images that show what your animation will look like when it's finished, while a storyboard is a sequence of drawings that show what will happen in your animation in a step-by-step, sequential fashion. - Animatic
The animatic is a rough draft video that shows how your animation will play out before you fully animate it. It is typically made by setting your storyboard to an audio track. - Final Project
It is usually completed within several weeks of the end of instructor-led classes as part of the post-class mentoring process.
