Enhance your BIM skills with this comprehensive guide on using Revit for creating construction documents. The course takes the knowledge acquired from previous courses and applies it to practical learning exercises, including creating an existing building from PDF and CAD files, creating demolition plans, and designing a new building structure for presentation purposes.
Key Insights
- The course involves two main parts - the midterm and the final - and incorporates a mix of practical exercises and theoretical learning.
- Students will learn to create an existing building using PDF and CAD files, create demolition plans, and design a new building structure using specialized lighting and ceilings.
- The course emphasizes the importance of regular review of the lessons and supplementary reading assignments to fill in the gaps in learners' BIM knowledge.
Note: These materials offer prospective students a preview of how our classes are structured. Students enrolled in this course will receive access to the full set of materials, including video lectures, project-based assignments, and instructor feedback.
Hey everyone, and welcome to BIM 301. In this course, we're going to take the skills and knowledge we learned in the previous courses and apply them to learn how to use Revit for creating construction documents. This course is going to be broken down into two parts, the Midterm and the Final.
For the Midterm, we're going to go through and create an existing building based on PDF and CAD files. You can see here we'll have a PDF of the existing building elevations, and we'll have the CAD file of the floor plans.
It's pretty common to be able to get CAD files of floor plans, but not necessarily the elevations. We'll just have to use that information to model the existing building. The next part of the course is going to be creating demolition plans based on the information we need to create the new design or the revised entrance to the building.
We're going to do that by identifying portions of the building to be demolished. We'll have floor plans to illustrate that. So these are our First Floor Plan, Second Floor Plan, and even our Roof Plan.
Then we'll jump into creating the new design, which is going to define our scope of work. You can see here we're breaking it down to only isolating this lobby area. We'll create a First Floor Plan, Second Floor Plan, and Roof Plan to show that.
We'll also have a Ceiling Plan, which breaks down the different components that we're going to want to illustrate. So specialized lighting, specialty ceilings, and even a canopy that we're going to use. I'm going to use that information to create new Elevations, new Building Sections, a Feature Stair, and then we'll even take it to the next level, apply materials and create a rendering that we can use for presentation purposes.
This course has a lot packed into a short period. We're going to want to make sure that we are reviewing the videos multiple times and also taking a look at some of the reading assignments to help fill in the gaps. So looking forward to diving into our first lesson, we are going to start out by creating that new model based on those existing drawings.
