Managing Worksets in Revit for Better Project Organization

Optimizing Worksets for Collaboration in Revit: Ensuring Non-Editable Status & Central File Updates

Explore the process of managing worksets in Revit Project Management, including the importance of ensuring new worksets are not set to editable. Understand the role of saving to the central file and its effect on local and server files.

Key Insights

  • The article showcases the steps involved in managing worksets in Revit Project Management. It highlights the need to double-check new worksets to ensure their status is not set to editable.
  • Before changing worksets from editable to non-editable, it is necessary to save to the central file. This ensures that the local file on the user's computer and the central file on the server are updated simultaneously.
  • After informing the central file about the new worksets and changing their status to non-editable, the next step is to save to the central server again. This guarantees the updates are reflected both on the local computer and the central server.

Hello and welcome to the CAD Teacher VDCI video series for Revit Project Management. In the last video, we left off after just importing all of our consultant links and then we created worksets for those files. So what I'd like to do here is we need to double-check those new worksets that we created and make sure that they're not set to editable.

So I'm going to go to my workset settings and you can see here that all the new worksets that I just created are still set to editable. So I need to make sure and change those back. So I'm going to change it from yes to no and I get an error here.

So what's happening is before we change them from yes to no we have to do a save to central. We'll go ahead and follow the directions and say close here and hit okay and then let's do a save to central. Okay, I'm going to hit okay and this check box right here, what it's going to do is it's going to save the local file to your, what would be your local computer and then it'll save the copy back to the central file and then it's going to download those changes from the central file and then update your local file as well.

So it's pretty nice because you'll have a current file on your computer and then there'll also be a current file on the server. It's kind of like having a couple backups. We'll go ahead and hit okay.

Now that we've told the central file that we have these new worksets we can go ahead and set them to not editable. So I'm going to go into my workset settings again and I'm going to change my Mechanical, Plumbing, and Structural files to be not editable. Okay, this looks good.

I'm going to hit okay and then I'm going to do a save to central and we're all set. Okay, in the next video we're going to take a look at how we can improve this view by adjusting the visibility and graphic overrides of our LinkedIn Revit files.
