Explore the BIM 322 course where you learn to create local files based on a central file, modeling, annotating, and developing construction documents. It specifically begins by expanding the project browser's Mechanical and HVAC areas, and then offers detailed instructions on duplicating views with detailing and renaming them for easier navigation.
Key Insights
- The BIM 322 course covers creating a local file based on the central file, modeling, annotating, and constructing sets of construction documents.
- Practical instructions on how to expand the project browser, duplicate views with detailing, and rename views are provided in the course.
- Students learn to annotate drawings and prepare them for sheet placements, including the addition of tags for ducts and air diffusers.
Welcome back to the CAD Teacher VDCI video course content for the BIM 322 course. After we've created, in the previous videos, we created our local file based off of the central file, and we're going to go ahead and get started in our actual modeling and annotating and creating our set of construction documents. What we want to go ahead and do first is, under your project browser here, please go ahead and expand up Mechanical.
This is the area that we'll be going ahead and starting first. Go ahead and expand out your HVAC also, if it's not expanded. And then expand out the floor plans, the ceiling plans, so your project browser starts to look like this.
And the views that we currently have here, and where we're going to go ahead and start is, is we're going to go ahead and start at the first floor Mechanical of the ceiling plan, first floor Mechanical. And as you can see, we already have information populated. It's already been modeled for you, you don't really need to go back and model anything else.
What's going to happen is, is that right now what we call this view is, is this is what we're going to be using as our working view. And what our working view is, is it's a view that we're doing the actual modeling in, and not any annotations, or just annotations that we need to use for the modeling. The reason why we use the working view versus the sheet view, is because of the fact that I don't want to have all of my text annotations and everything in here while I'm modeling, because it's just going to make it a lot harder to model.
So the first thing that we want to go ahead and do is, is we're going to duplicate this view with detailing, so that we can actually get these room tags to come over. So what I'm going to do, is I'm going to go over to ceiling plans, first floor Mechanical, and I'm going to do a right click. I'm going to go to duplicate view.
If I did the standard duplicate, I would not get the room tags, and I'd have to repopulate those. I want to bring those over to the sheet view that I'm going to create, so we're going to do a duplicate with detailing. I'm going to go ahead and click on duplicate with detailing, and it's going to create an exact copy of that one.
Now what I want to do before I go any farther, is I want to go ahead and rename this. So I'm going to select copy of 1-mech. I'm going to do a right click, and I'm going to go to rename.
And I'm going to go ahead and rename this. I'm going to remove copy of, and name it sheet view-1-mech. And then hit OK.
And so this is going to actually become our sheet view that we'll actually be putting on the sheets. I'm going to go ahead, jump to my second floor Mechanical also, and do the same thing. So I'm going to jump to that second floor Mechanical.
Again, you can see that we have the room tags here, and we have everything else modeled. I'm going to go to the second floor mech, do a right click, go up to duplicate view. I'm going to choose duplicate with detailing, because I want to go ahead and bring over those room tags that I already have placed.
So I'm going to go duplicate with detailing. Again, it's going to create that copy 2 of mech. I'm going to select that.
I'm going to go ahead and do a right click. I'm going to go ahead and do a right rename. I'm going to take out copy of, and just replace it with sheet view space dash to give myself the standard naming scheme.
And I'm going to go ahead and hit OK. What I want to go ahead and do now is I'm going to go ahead and jump to that sheet view mech 1. If you want to be able to see the names, the full names of these drawings here, go ahead. You can hover over this portion here until you get this cursor icon, and then I can click and I can just drag it out just a little bit, just to make sure so I can actually see everything.
And so what I'm going to do is let's go ahead and jump back to our sheet view 1, or sheet view for the first floor mechanical. And what's going to go on is we're going to go ahead and start annotating this drawing, and we're going to go ahead and start getting it ready for placement on the sheets. And the first thing that we'll be doing is actually annotating the, we'll be adding tags for the ducts and the air diffusers, or the actual, these pieces here that are the pieces that go in the ceiling, that actually supply and return the air to the spaces.
I'm going to go ahead and start that in the next video. I'll see you there.
