Wrapping Up Annotations in Piping Plans: A Step-by-Step Guide

Adding Final Annotations and Sprinkler Types to Level One and Level Two Piping Plans

This article presents a step-by-step guide on how to finalize annotations for a piping plan. It provides instructions for setting the text, creating notes with leaders, referencing other plans, and annotating sprinkler types.

Key Insights

  • The article outlines the process of setting the text tool and making a note with a leader in a piping plan, ensuring visibility and clarity.
  • It highlights the importance of referencing other plans, such as the level two piping plan, in annotations to provide comprehensive information for plan reviewers.
  • Instructions are provided for annotating sprinkler types, differentiating between uprights and pendants, and ensuring these annotations are visible in both level one and level two plans.

All right, all we need to do with our piping plan is wrap up some annotations. So let's go back to our Level 1 Piping Plan**. Let's go to the Text tool and make sure our border is on.

Set the text to 3/32 inches**, and let’s create a note with a leader. We’ll adjust this later.

Type: NOTE: All armover assemblies, 1 inch, Schedule U and O, unless noted otherwise.** Now we don’t have to worry about tagging all our individual armovers. Let’s just move this to a spot that isn’t blocking anything else, pointing to our 1-inch armover.

Maybe pull it down just a tad more. There we go. All right, let’s add one more annotation here.

It doesn’t look like there’s any pipe, and that’s because this is pipe from the Level 2 system. So let’s go ahead and add a text box here.

Type: Refer to FP-4**, which is our Level 2 Piping Plan**. That way, the reviewer will be able to cross-reference and confirm that yes, there is piping here, but it is not from the Level 1 system. Okay, let’s check out our Level 2 Piping Plan**.

Now, just a few more annotations. This is the same situation here in the library and the cafeteria. We’ll add an annotation.

Type: Refer to FP-3, Level 1 Piping Plan**. Zoom in as needed. Let’s go ahead and copy this down to the library area over here. We can also call out some of our sprinkler types and add more annotations here.

We can go back to our Level 1 Piping Plan**, go to Copy to Clipboard**, return to Level 2, and choose Paste > Align to Current View**. Now we have the same information there—we might need to move a pipe tag out of the way.

Part of this process is cleaning up—make sure the sprinkler is visible. Okay, that looks good. Now let’s explain what’s going on here with this pipe.

Let’s go ahead and add text with a leader and label it: Up from main – refer to FP-3, Level 1 Piping Plan**. Okay.

And finally, let’s call out a few of our sprinkler types. We have our uprights**, which we’ll annotate as SSU – Typical**, and our pendants as SSP – Typical**. So let’s find one of our uprights.

Label it SSU – Typical so the reviewer knows these are upright symbols. Let’s go ahead and copy this.

We can place it just about anywhere—we’ll put one here. Move it over slightly.

This is a pendant**, so label it SSP – Typical**. We also have our concealed sprinklers**.

Let’s find an example of that—maybe somewhere here in the corridor. This is also an SSP. We’ll be adding a sprinkler legend to differentiate between these two sprinkler types when we get to our Reflected Ceiling Plan**.

That looks good. Let’s go ahead and bring this to Level 1. Hold Control and copy both of those.

Then go to Level 1 and choose Paste > Align to Current View**. These are now in the same spot. All right.

We’ve got our annotations on Level 1 and Level 2**. In the next video, we’ll start dimensioning our sprinklers for the Reflected Ceiling Plan**.
