Learn how to properly design and build a detailed corridor and soffit area around a library using key architectural tools and techniques. The article provides step-by-step instructions on how to set up detail lines, adjust dimensions, and place concealed sprinklers in a systematic and efficient manner.
Key Insights:
- Detail lines are used as references in constructing the corridor and soffit area. A mid-point detail line is used for accurate positioning of elements.
- The placement of concealed sprinklers is important in the design process. Sprinklers are initially placed at any point along the detail line, with dimensions adjusted later for precision.
- Design options can be adjusted based on constraints such as minimum and maximum sprinkler spacing. Adjustments include moving sprinklers and copying them over specific distances to meet these guidelines.

Now let's work on the corridor and the soffit around the library. So again, in hardwood ceiling areas, I like to use the Detail Line to set me up. So first, let's do one type DL, and we'll just run from this point to here.
And we can do DL again. You could also press ENTER to repeat the command, find the midpoint. Okay, just to tell us where that is, we'll do the same thing here.
All right, and the last one here, you know, one more Detail Line at the midpoint. Okay, so now we have our references. Good to go.
Let's start up here at the corridor. Let's find one of our Concealed Sprinklers. We can go to this one and create similar.
And let's go ahead and for now, we'll put it anywhere on this Detail Line. And we'll get a Dimension DI. Okay, now let's change this Dimension to 1'8".
That looks good. Now let's copy this sprinkler all the way over and we'll go 12 feet. Perfect.
Get rid of our Detail Lines. Select them all, go to the Filter. Check none.
Check Sprinklers. Set it to Level One. 12 foot six.
Looks good. Okay, let's move on to this soffit area. Create similar.
Put it anywhere on this Detail Line. And we can do the same down here as well. All right, now let's set up a Dimension for both of those.
Okay, they're not the same. That's okay. Let's set them to both four foot two.
All right, and let's move these over 15 feet. Select both of them. Copy.
Make sure we're going in a straight line. You can even click Constrain to make sure. All right, and let's go 15.
Now this one could be a little far. I'm more comfortable putting this in the center. So let's do another Detail Line.
From there to there. And let's do one down the midpoint. And let's go ahead and move this to the midpoint of that Detail Line.
All right, zoom out and take a look. Now in this case, let's go ahead and check our spacing here. We are at 18 foot two.
We know our maximum spacing has to be 15 feet. So this isn't going to work. So I think what we should do, there are several design options.
But we'll move this sprinkler up into this pocket. And let's see our distance now between these two sprinklers. We are at 30 feet.
So all we need to do is copy this over 15 feet. Now let's look what's going on here. Five foot four, that's a little too close.
We said the minimum distance is going to be six feet. I'm going to move this one up two feet. Now we have that pocket and this is continuing with the spacing there.
Okay, again, there are many design options. But this is what we're going with for now. In the next videos, we'll add our piping to these areas.
