Key Insights

  • The article provides a step-by-step guide to creating branch lines in a specific area of the level 2 piping plan, starting with creating detail lines.
  • The process involves finding the center of the sprinkler system and moving the lines in specific directions.
  • Finally, the branch lines are put in place and connected to the main sprinkler system to ensure the flow of water across all sprinklers.

Before we begin, let's save our project. Okay, so in this video, we'll be creating our Branch Lines in this area of the Level 2 Piping Plan, and this area.

So let's begin. We'll start with our Detail Lines. So let's type DL.

We'll find the center of this sprinkler here, pan out, move up to just about here, and we can drag it down a bit, and let's move it in this direction. Eight inches should be good. Let's do one more Detail Line to the center of this sprinkler.

Now you have to zoom in to find the middle, pan back out, and let's move this one to the left eight inches. Okay, now let's finish with this part of the workflow with our Detail Lines. Let's go to here, and we'll start at this sprinkler, eight inches.

We can copy this one, and in this case, let's go to the center of the sprinkler, and we'll copy it over. There we are. This row of sprinklers will also be connected to this Branch Line.

Let's take these two. Let's move them to the left eight inches. Okay, now we know where we're going to place our Branch Lines.

So let's start with this one. Let's find our Pipe Outlets. Let's use one-and-a-half-inch pipe.

Our elevation is matching what we have here. We can start here. Now we won't connect just yet because we'll draw this one out.

We'll copy it over to this one since these are going to be typical Branch Lines. Let's go on ahead, create our section, go to View, and let's Window Tile. Make sure we're working on the right sprinkler, and we are.

Now we don't want to connect just yet because we're going to copy it over, and we'll connect those all at that time. Now here, this gave us a Transition Piece. This will be okay.

We'll leave this like this for now. Let's go on ahead, go to the next sprinkler, remove the Transition Piece. Okay, let's cut back.

We're looking through the main. It's easier to draw without seeing that. Lastly, we'll get rid of that.

Now let's go back to our Plan View. Let's highlight everything, go to the Filter, deselect Sprinklers and Lines. Okay, and let's copy this over from the center line of the pipe to the Detail Line.

All right, now we can connect everything since both of these are typical. We can get rid of the Detail Lines. They were just temporary placeholders.

Let's start with clicking on our main, Trim/Extend, Multiple Elements, select our main, select this Branch Line, and this one. Okay, that looks good. We can start here.

Now that we have both of those drops, we'll connect the one on the left. Now these references might have to do with flipping the other side of the face from the ceiling, but that's okay. It's still connected and working.

Let's pan back to the next set. Okay, and the last set. All right, very nice.

We've got another Branch Line here. We'll draw it and then we'll connect all of the Arm Overs. So again, System tab, Pipe, Outlets, we'll stick with one-and-a-half-inch and we'll go to the center line and we'll go past the sprinkler.

Might as well move our section now. Okay, we don't need the Detail Line and we will connect. In this case, we can shorten this section right now because we're only going to be looking at this one Branch Line.

We can start at the end here.
