Learn how to connect more arm overs for a typical piping system and copy everything to the second level. The article provides a detailed step-by-step guide on drawing pipes and managing transition pieces in a sprinkler system.
Key Insights
- The process involves focusing on areas of sprinklers that have not been connected yet and pulling up sections to these areas.
- Transition pieces are to be deleted prior to copying up to the second level, ensuring that everything is connected.
- Managing sprinkler connections involves using the drawing pipe command, handling dimensions, and connecting into branch lines with a preference for making the shortest run of pipe possible.

In the last video, we were drawing out our typical arm overs and branch lines on Level 1. So in this video, we'll continue connecting a few more arm overs and then we're going to copy everything up to Level 2. So let's zoom in and focus on these areas of sprinklers that have not been connected yet. We'll take our section and pull it up to about here.
Now we're not going to worry about this sprinkler because later on we're going to have to add new piping here, but it's going to be different from the other level. We're only sticking to the typical piping for now. Okay, let's drag this over to this sprinkler here.
And we can drag this as well. Make sure we're pulled up just enough to see these sprinklers. Okay.
Now let's go to the view. It will be helpful if we use our Window Tile command. Now we're looking at this sprinkler here.
We want to draw these, but we want to make sure the transition piece is deleted, because again, we're going to copy these up to the second floor. We'll have to connect everything once we're done. Draw pipe (1 inch) and connect.
Now if we don't exit out of this, we're still in that 1-inch command. We can just go to the next sprinkler and go up. Now it's saying there is a dimension there—we can get rid of that.
Draw pipe. Then go to the next sprinkler.
We're still at 1 inch. Looking at our plan here, we can see we've been connecting into these branch lines. Let's go ahead and keep going.
In this case, I can connect to this branch line or this one. Typically, we want to make the shortest run of pipe possible. So in this case, it makes sense to connect to this one.
And we've got one last one here. Just enough room. That might be a bit tight, but we'll leave it for now.
Okay. Now remember—very important—we need to get rid of those transition pieces. So what we can do is zoom out.
Hover over everything. Zoom in to make sure we’ve selected them. Then use the Filter.
Uncheck the sprinklers. Click OK. And now if we press Delete, those transition pieces are gone.
Now we won't have to worry about them being connected.
