Exploring Point of Intersection Label Style in AutoCAD Civil 3D

Exploring the Tangent Intersection Label Style in AutoCAD Civil 3D

Gain a deeper understanding of the use and modification of alignment labels in CAD drawings, specifically focusing on the intersection label style. Learn how to navigate the settings tab, identify label styles in use, and edit contents to return the desired data.

Key Insights

  • The settings tab in the tool space allows access to options for different label styles, including tangent intersection and point of intersection.
  • Within the label style composer window, users can control the label, plan readability, and add text lines, reference text, and blocks. Available data can be returned for point of intersection for our tangent intersection.
  • Multiple pieces of data can be returned in a single component or multiple components with singular data, which can then be modified based on X and Y offsets.

Note: These materials offer prospective students a preview of how our classes are structured. Students enrolled in this course will receive access to the full set of materials, including video lectures, project-based assignments, and instructor feedback.

So the last label that we need to go look at for the label style is our Point of Intersection label style. If we go to the settings tab inside of the tool space and we go down to the bottom of our alignments label styles folder, we have the options for our Tangent Intersection and our Point of Intersection.

If I expand out Point of Intersection, you're going to notice that there is no golden triangle. So I know that this label style is not currently in use inside of our drawing. So I'm going to go ahead and expand out Tangent Intersection, and you'll notice station is listed with a golden triangle.

So I know that that label style is currently being used in my drawing. So I know that that's this one right here. So I'm going to go ahead and right-click and select Edit.

And then inside of my Label Style Composer window, we can have the Information tab, Name, Description, Who Created It. We have the General tab for controlling the Label, the Behavior, and the Plan Readability. Then we have the Layout tab where we again have the information for adding Text, Lines, Blocks, and Reference Text.

And the important part that we want to look at for this Tangent Intersection Label Style is to look at the contents to see what we can return. So I'm going to go ahead and click the ellipses, get to the Text Component Editor window. I'm going to drop down the properties.

And inside of here, what you can see is that you have a ton of information because your PIs can be associated with spirals, with curves, just the point itself. So inside of here, we have Extended Stations. I'm not going to go through the entire list, but we have all the information about PIs.

We have Tangent information. We have Spiral One information because a lot of times when you have spirals, you spiral in, you curve, you spiral out. We have the beginning spiral.

We have the curve information. We have the Spiral Two information for the spiral out. And then we have just the general Alignment information.

So any of this data can be returned for Point of Intersection for our Tangent Intersection. And then you would go ahead and make sure you fill out the modifiers and hit the arrow to bring it over. And then you can go ahead and click OK to save it.

I'm going to go ahead and click cancel because I don't want to modify this again. You can return multiple pieces of data. This one here is a single component with multiple pieces of data in the single component, or you can do multiple components with singular data in it and just change the location of it based on your X and Y offsets.

So moving on to Drag State again, Leader Control, Drag State for the Text Component Control. And then we have the Summary tab for all the different pieces that have shown up prior in the other tabs. So I'm going to go ahead and hit cancel and then I'm going to save the drawing.

And then in the next video, we're going to go ahead and talk about adding tables from some of the alignment labels that we added in this drawing.
