Discover how to efficiently replace labels in Civil 3D without the need to delete and replace them manually. Learn the step-by-step process of replacing multiple segments or area labels, and how to adjust the display settings to suit your needs.
Key Insights
- Civil 3D allows you to replace labels efficiently by using the 'add labels window' instead of deleting and manually replacing each label.
- With the 'replace multiple segments' option, you can change label types such as 'bearing over distance' to 'bearing and distance' or adjust 'delta over length and radius' to 'standard'.
- Area labels can also be replaced by selecting 'replace area' and choosing a different option. This change allows you to display additional data like name, area, and perimeter for a given property.

In this video we're going to discuss replacing labels that we already have inside Civil 3D. Now this is important because if you selected and placed a label inside of Civil 3D and you didn't prefer the label that you chose, but you didn't want to have to go through the hassle of selecting a label, deleting that label, and then placing a new label, what you can do inside of Civil 3D is you can drop down into your annotation or you can go to your add labels.
I'm going to gain efficiency by dropping down, going to parcel labels, selecting add parcel labels, and then I have the add labels window. Now inside of here, the label type gives us the option to replace multiple segments. If I have decided that I don't want my bearing over distance and instead I want bearing and distance because I don't like them stacked, I'm going to go ahead and choose bearing and distance.
And then for my delta over length and radius, let's say I want to change it to standard. I'm going to go ahead and click add and it's going to walk me through how to replace these labels. So I can go ahead and I can say I want to replace my labels for property three.
If I select property three, now I have the labels displayed as my bearing and distance and my standard labels here. So you can do that also with your area labels. So you can replace area labels by selecting replace area, choosing a different option instead of parcel name, which is what we have.
We could go with name, area, and perimeter. I can click add and then Civil 3D will ask me to select the parcel area selection label that I want to change. I'm going to go ahead and change property three by selecting it and hitting enter.
And now I have a different label for property three that gives me an area of that property and the perimeter for that property. So what we're going to go ahead and do is I'm going to escape out of my command. I'm going to center my properties here and I'm going to save and then I will meet you in the next video and we'll talk about the map check command.
