Get an inside look into the process of creating grading objects, applying grading surfaces to a pre-existing combo surface, and combining surfaces for a comprehensive view of all proposed work. This article guides you through each step, from selecting the correct surfaces to viewing the contours in three-dimensional view.
Key Insights
- The process begins with applying grading surfaces, created in the background, to a combo surface that has been created beforehand. This combo surface is available in the prospector tab of the tool space.
- Once the grading groups are selected, they can be viewed in three-dimensional view using the object viewer. This gives a detailed view of all the elements including individual pads and the desilting basin.
- In the final steps, the grading groups are added to the dev combo, thus creating a combination surface of all the proposed work. This combined surface can later be pasted into an existing surface for a comprehensive view of the entire site.
Note: These materials offer prospective students a preview of how our classes are structured. Students enrolled in this course will receive access to the full set of materials, including video lectures, project-based assignments, and instructor feedback.
So the last step in our Grading Creation or Grading Objects lesson is that we're going to take some of these grading surfaces that are being created in the background and we're going to apply them to a Combo Surface that we've already created inside of this drawing. If I go to my Prospector tab of my Toolspace and I go to Surfaces, you're going to see we have the Dev Combo Surface that we already created.
We also have the Dev Branch Grad that we already created over here. And then we have the Dev Main Grad, which we haven't looked at yet, but has been being created in the background based on our Dev Main Grad Grading Group. So I'm going to go ahead and right-click select.
So you can see when I select it, it selects all of the contours associated with these Grading Groups. I can go to Object Viewer. I can bring this over here, expand it out, rotate into three-dimensional view.
And what we can see here is we have all of the individual pads plus the desilting basin that we've created here. I can go ahead and close this. And then what I'm going to go ahead and do now is as part of my Dev Combo, I'm going to add in these Grading Groups so that we have a combination surface of all of the proposed work that we're doing inside of this drawing.
So I'm going to go ahead and take Dev Combo. I'm going to expand it out. I'm going to expand out Definitions.
I'm going to go to Edits. I'm going to go ahead and right-click. I'm going to select Paste Surface.
I'm going to go ahead and paste in my Dev Main Grad, click OK. And then I'm going to go ahead and right-click on Edits again, Paste Surface again. I'm going to go ahead and go to my Dev Branch Grad and click OK.
And then from here, I'm going to go ahead and right-click on Dev Combo, select, go to Object Viewer, and now what we can see inside of the Object Viewer is that we have all of the contours associated with our roadways, our pads, our desilting basin, and our grading for Dev Branch. If I rotate this out, now we can see all of the grading for all of the work that we're proposing for this site. The next step that we could do is we could take this Combo Surface, paste it into our existing surface, and see what a combination of everything looks like, and we'll do that later on in the class.
So I'm going to go ahead and close this now that we've made these modifications, and I'm going to go ahead and save my drawing, and then I'll meet you in the next video.
