Mastering the Setup of A3.2 File for Elevation and Building Sections

Discover how to properly set up the A3.2 file, including creating additional elevations and building sections. Gain an understanding of how to use elevation keynotes and develop building section keynotes.

Key Insights

  • The A3.2 file, when completed, will feature an additional elevation and two building sections.
  • Elevation keynotes, identical to those used in the A3.01 sheet file, will be developed in relation to an image and will be replicated to the CAD302 elevation model.
  • The building sections, which are slices through the building, will begin as identical files to the elevation model file, but will then be developed into a longitudinal section and a transverse slice through the building.

Note: These materials offer prospective students a preview of how our classes are structured. Students enrolled in this course will receive access to the full set of materials, including video lectures, project-based assignments, and instructor feedback.

The purpose of these first few vids is to go over setting up the A3.2 file. In the A3.2 file, when we're completed, we will have an additional elevation up here. We will have two building sections here.

You can see that we have elevation keynotes up here. So these elevation keynotes will relate to this image. These elevation keynotes are the same ones that we used in our A3.01 sheet file.

We also have some building section keynotes that we will be developing. We will begin with a new file called Startup Elevation. This Startup Elevation is identical to the A3.01 elevation we did for the front of the building.

What we're going to be doing is we're going to take the Startup, we'll be creating a new file which will be our CAD302 elevation model. So this is the source information. What we will then be doing is replicating or copying this information over to here.

I've taken the XREF and I've rotated it because we're going to be developing this elevation of the building. So like we did in the A3.01 drawing, we will be pulling the lines down from here to create this elevation. After we've gotten that elevation done, we will continue our project and we will work on the building section file.

This will begin as the identical file that we were working on for our elevation model file, but building sections are slices through the building and we have two sections we're going to be working on. This is the longitudinal section and you can see that I have my notes right here. And in these notes, I'm showing that the building section is cut here and the building section is looking up this way.

So that you can see from the hat that these sections are going to be cut looking up. For our other section, which would be a transverse slice through the building, this section actually jogs. So you can see that it starts in the garage, it will jog through the laundry room and then continue on through the living room area.

So what I'd like for us to do next is to start assembling all of our components.
