DigitalCrafts is a technology bootcamp and training provider offering intense educational experiences approachable for beginners and those with some tech experience. Started in Atlanta in 2015, co-founders Jake Hadden and Max McChesney had a passion for helping others achieve their goals, regardless of their starting point. DigitalCrafts is part of the American InterContinental University System, which is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a regional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. DigitalCrafts has embraced the accelerated bootcamp model as a way for students to learn new skills as efficiently as possible, and now provides immersive full-time bootcamps in UX design, cybersecurity, and web development, as well as a part-time web development program. DigitalCrafts’ other option, the hybrid learning model, involves attending classes live online via Zoom but having the option to work at a desk onsite at a coworking partner space (such as Atlanta Tech Village, WeWork All Access in Chicago, and The Canon in Houston). What Classes Are Available?

DigitalCrafts offers full-time immersive bootcamps in web development, cybersecurity, and UX design. For those who want to learn at a slower pace, DigitalCrafts has a part-time web development option. Taught by expert instructors, all the bootcamps provided at DigitalCrafts include a high-level, modern, constantly evolving curriculum that keeps pace with the ever-changing technology.

Aspiring developers can look into DigitalCrafts’ web development bootcamp. Offered both full-time and part-time, the only difference between the two is the amount of time it takes to complete the coursework. DigitalCrafts aims to empower students enrolled in the web development bootcamp to build full-stack applications. The bootcamp starts with front-end web development and students dig into JavaScript, as well as the essential HTML and CSS for stylizing. Participants will learn foundational skills and then move on to more advanced concepts like APIs, React, Version Control (Git), Frameworks, Responsive Design, Debugging, Command-Line, and more. When studying the back-end, students will learn HTTP for application protocol, hosting, Python to make web pages dynamic, Node.js, Terminal, Express, Npm Modules, and databases.

DigitalCrafts recently started offering a cybersecurity bootcamp. DigitalCrafts prides itself on teaching new technologies and cybersecurity is no exception. Those enrolled in the cybersecurity bootcamp will learn both in-demand strategy and tools for securing and protecting personal information, securing assets and other infrastructure, and testing systems for weaknesses. In addition to gaining comprehensive knowledge preparing students for a career in the field, the DigitalCrafts cybersecurity bootcamp devotes the last two weeks of the program to real-world practice for the CompTIA Security+ certification. Students will go over concepts and techniques on the certification exam, complete practice tests, and even receive a free voucher (plus a retake!) toward the exam during the final weeks.

The UX design bootcamp offered by DigitalCrafts is ideal for anyone with an interest in a career as a User Interface (UI) Designer, a Product Designer, a UX Designer, or a UX Researcher—even if you don’t have any previous design experience. DigitalCrafts’ design bootcamp is a rigorous, 14-week program with modules focused on foundational UX design principles and concepts, information architecture, user interface (UI) design, interaction design, UX engineering, and design leadership. Students will learn best practices, modern design tools, and methodologies that will propel them toward a career in the field. Participants will work individually and collaborate with their peers on real-world projects.

Class Formats

DigitalCrafts offers three full-time bootcamps (in web development, cybersecurity, and UX design), and one part-time web development option. Regardless of the bootcamp, students begin with around 40 hours of prerequisite work to prepare for the in-depth classroom experience and to ensure the cohort is starting with the same baseline knowledge. Each cohort normally has around 17-18 students.

The bootcamps consist of 14-26 weeks of intensive learning programs and technologies, as well as soft skills training, resume building, and career coaching. Throughout the program, students will build a portfolio of original projects and products they can use after graduation to showcase their talents to future employers or prospective clients.

Bootcamps at DigitalCrafts are offered online and through a hybrid model, which includes online learning along with a coworking community. The hybrid option is available in Tampa, Austin, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta. Online learning experiences include online classes and lectures via Zoom, a dedicated Slack channel where students can ask questions and communicate, and a Digital Crafts learning platform. While online and hybrid students take classes in the same way, those choosing the hybrid options have the choice to work at a desk in a coworking partner space.

Although the different bootcamps will have different numbers of modules lasting different amounts of time, the full-time programs all follow a similar daily structure: three hours of lectures and assignments in the mornings, with another three hours of projects or lab time in the afternoons. DigitalCrafts often offers elective workshops for students and alumni as well. Regardless of which bootcamp you choose, with roughly 30 hours of class per week plus 10-15 hours a week of independent work outside of your classroom time, students should prepare themselves to devote most of their time to this immersive bootcamp.

The part-time web development program takes 26 weeks to complete and has classes for three hours on two weekday evenings as well as from 10 am-2 pm on Saturdays. While this program still requires a significant weekly time commitment from its students (10 hours of class and an additional 15-20 hours of study outside the classroom), it’s still possible to keep a day job, school schedule, or other commitments while enrolled in this bootcamp.

Admissions Process

DigitalCrafts has a three-step admissions process: application, admissions meeting, and an admissions exercise. The first thing applicants will need to do is take five minutes to fill out the application online.

Once DigitalCrafts receives the application, you’ll have a dedicated enrollment coordinator who will be your point of contact throughout the application process. After submitting your application and connecting with your enrollment coordinator, you’ll schedule a 30-minute video chat to learn more about DigitalCrafts, including tuition and schedule, share your goals, and generally see which program is a good match.

Next, prospective students will complete an open book, untimed, 15-question admissions exercise. The questions focus on logic and problem solving and serve as a way to ensure that students begin at the same level of understanding of the material and class expectations.

After completing these three steps, applicants will be notified via email if they have been accepted to DigitalCrafts. Once accepted, they’ll proceed with the next steps, including submitting a deposit, receiving information about prework, downloading their curriculum packet, and checking out DigitalCrafts’ YouTube channel to learn about past students’ experiences and the kinds of projects they’ll create in the program.

Pricing & Payment Options

The full-time bootcamps at DigitalCrafts cost between $13,950 and $15,950, and the base tuition for the part-time web development program is $9,950. Keep in mind that these numbers don’t include any discounts or scholarships, so the actual amount students pay can end up being lower.

There are several different ways to fund your DigitalCrafts bootcamp. One is by paying upfront. If this is financially feasible for you, it can be a great option since even though it’s a large initial investment, without interest, it ends up costing less overall.

If paying for your bootcamp over time (often anywhere for 3 to 15 years) is more feasible for your budget, check out a third-party lender to help finance the bootcamp. Students may use any third-party lender of their choice. DigitalCrafts recommends Sallie Mae because they offer students a six-month grace period after graduation, good terms, and bootcamp participants can use the loan for living expenses as well as tuition.

For part-time/flex students, DigitalCrafts offers an installment payment plan. After paying the initial $250 deposit, students have the option to pay the tuition balance in full before the bootcamp begins, or pay another $250 processing fee to DigitalCrafts and then spread the cost of tuition out over four equal payments throughout the bootcamp. Flex participants are also welcome to pay for their part-time bootcamp using loans from third-party lenders.

DigitalCrafts offers a few scholarship options, including the You Belong in Tech Scholarship. DigitalCrafts automatically applies this scholarship to all women, Black, and Latinx students enrolled in any bootcamp at DigitalCrafts—no application necessary. DigitalCrafts provides $1,000 for the part-time bootcamp and $1,500 for any of the full-time programs.

Another scholarship DigitalCrafts sponsors is The Builder Scholarship. This scholarship is designed for students with an inspiring history and background with big plans for after graduation. DigitalCrafts believes those awarded the scholarship will continue to make waves in the world. This award is also $1,000 for the flex program and $1,500 for the full-time bootcamp.

DigitalCrafts offers an early enrollment discount for up to $500 off and a decision-maker discount for those who pay their deposit within five days of getting their DigitalCrafts acceptance letter. There may be additional discounts available such as a corporate training discount, the GI Bill, and others, so be sure to discuss financing options with your enrollment coordinator in advance of your bootcamp.

DigitalCrafts has a strong community of support for prospective students, current students, and alumni. Using a personable, hands-on approach, the DigitalCrafts Student Success team works to help students navigate the DigitalCraft experience from beginning to end. The Student Success team helps throughout the program, providing students with guidance and support as they navigate their job searches. Students can receive help with interviewing, creating and maintaining an online presence, and polishing their portfolios. The Student Success team gives feedback on cover letters and resumes, teaches important industry soft skills, and fosters connections with DigitalCrafts’ long list of employer partners to help students land that first job after graduation.
