## Overview

SQL is one of the most valuable skills you can have in a data-driven world, and this bootcamp covers it comprehensively, combining the content of our SQL Level 1, 2, and 3 classes into a single course. You'll start by learning how to navigate tables, columns, and rows, then work your way up to writing queries that extract exactly the information you're looking for. Along the way, you'll learn how to filter and group data, combine information from multiple tables using JOIN statements, and apply more advanced techniques like aggregate functions, subqueries, functions with parameters, and stored procedures. The course uses Microsoft SQL Server and the free SQL Server Management Studio app, and the concepts you'll pick up translate easily to other flavors of SQL like PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Microsoft Access with only minor syntax differences.

What makes SQL worth learning is how broadly it applies. Almost every industry runs on databases, and being able to pull meaningful insights from raw data gives you a bigger seat at the table no matter where you work. Whether you're a Business Analyst, Data Scientist, Web Developer, or just someone whose job involves working with data, SQL opens doors and makes you more effective at what you do. By the end of this bootcamp, you'll have the hands-on experience and the practical know-how to start putting it to work right away.

## What you'll learn

- Explore information stored in a database (tables, columns, rows, etc.) using the graphical interface of SQL Server Management Studio (Microsoft’s free database tool)
- Write SQL queries to retrieve data from tables in a database
- Combine information from multiple tables with JOIN statements
- Filter data, group it, and sort it to extract the specific info you need
- Learn advanced techniques such as subqueries, string functions, and IF-Else logic with CASE
- Learn how to use views and functions with parameters instead of directly querying tables

## FAQ

### How is this class structured?

In this hands-on course you’ll learn the ins and outs of SQL. You will learn to explore data using the graphical interface of SQL Server Management Studio, write SQL queries, combine information from multiple tables, and much more. There will be a combination of lectures explaining the concepts, coding demonstrations showing you how to write SQL, and time for you to write SQL queries based on challenge questions we provide.

### What flavor of SQL will I learn in this class?

In this training you’ll learn Microsoft SQL Server, but the core concepts can be applied to other flavors of SQL (such as PostgreSQL, Microsoft Access, MySQL, etc.) with minor syntax differences.

Which version of SQL should you learn? You should learn the version of SQL used by the company you’ll be working with, but if you don’t know that here’s a guide to help:

- SQL Server only runs on Windows (it does not work on a Mac), and is widely used by businesses.
- PostgreSQL works on both Mac and Windows. It is widely used in data science, data analytics, and by companies like Apple, Instagram, Uber, Netflix, etc.

Whichever you end up learning, the concepts are transferrable to other SQL flavors with minor syntax differences. If you’re not sure, choose the one based on whether you use Mac or Windows.

### Is there mandatory work outside of the classroom?

You are not required to complete any work outside of class.
