## Overview

### Learn Advanced Tableau Skills
In this course, you will learn advanced data manipulation techniques and create custom charts. Under the guidance of an expert instructor, you'll build actions that allow you to easily control your visualizations within your sheets and dashboards.  

### Create Maps with Geographic Data
With Tableau Public, you can convert geographic data into a variety of maps. Learn how to format data for maps, customize map layers, and choose the best type of map for the data you want to display.

## What you'll learn

- Format geographic data and build a variety of interactive map types, including heat maps, spider maps, and choropleth maps
- Integrate custom visuals using background images, polygon data, and Mapbox maps for enhanced design and functionality
- Create advanced charts such as dual-axis (layered) maps, alluvial diagrams, ranking visuals, and circular area charts
- Add interactivity to dashboards through sheet swapping, filtering actions, and dynamic content controls
- Track and display time-based data trends spatially using map animations and proportional symbols
- Prepare and publish high-quality map visualizations for presentation, sharing, and Tableau Online distribution

## Prerequisites

Students must have Tableau proficiency equivalent to our [Tableau Level I course](/classes/tableau-training), including creating basic visualizations, calculations, and dashboards.

- Distributing and Publishing your Map Visualization

#### Creating custom charts

- Cyclical data and circular area chart
- Dual Axis Charts
- Dual Axis (Layered) Maps
- Alluvial Diagram
- Ranking Chart
- Sheet swapping and dynamic dashboards

## Instructors

### Jerron Smith — Program Director & Senior Instructor

Jerron has more than 25 years of experience working with graphics and video and expert-level certifications in Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator along with an extensive knowledge of other animation programs like Cinema 4D, Adobe Animate, and 3DS Max. 

He has authored multiple books and video training series on computer graphics software such as: After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash (back when it was a thing).

He has taught at the college level for over 20 years at schools such as NYCCT (New York City College of Technology),  NYIT (The New York Institute of Technology), and FIT (The Fashion Institute of Technology).

### Garfield Stinvil — Senior Instructor

Garfield is an experienced software trainer with over 16 years of real-world professional experience. He started as a data analyst with a Wall Street real estate investment company & continued working in the professional development department at New York Road Runners Organization before working at Noble. He enjoys bringing humor to whatever he teaches and loves conveying ideas in novel ways that help others learn more efficiently.

Since starting his professional training career in 2016, he has worked with several corporate clients including Adobe, HBO, Amazon, Yelp, Mitsubishi, WeWork, Michael Kors, Christian Dior, and Hermès. 

Outside of work, his hobbies include rescuing & archiving at-risk artistic online media using his database management skills.
