Max Technical Training has partnered with the Urban League of Southwestern Ohio to help students find financial aid for training. They offer full certification programs and microcredentials.

Denise Bartick founded MAX Technical Training in 1998 after experiencing significant challenges making connections with other professionals in the tech industry. In 2012, MAX became the very first instructor-led coding bootcamp in Ohio. Since then, it has seen over 250 graduates walk through their doors and have been able to boast a 100% job placement rate.

Since its inception, MAX has become a certified Woman-Owned Business (WBENC) and has also been recognized as one of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies by Inc. 5000. MAX is proud to be an integral part of the Ohio IT community.

School Locations

MAX Technical Training has one location in Mason, Ohio. The school is near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and is located right off of Interstate 71. The school is close to several shops and restaurants and is also less than five minutes from the beautiful Cottell Park.

MAX Technical Training offers a small selection of bootcamps in coding and data analytics. MAX also teaches a variety of more general courses in topics like cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and project management. What Classes Are Available?

MAX offers a course catalog of over 600 classes. The catalog can be filtered by brands like Adobe, Google, and Microsoft. Students can also filter the catalog by the topic of the course. Some topics include Business Analysis, Cloud Computing, and Project Management.

In addition to the hundreds of general classes offered, MAX also offers four different bootcamps that include career support, unique admissions requirements, and different funding options. The bootcamps available are Maximum Coding, Part-Time Coding, Data Analytics, and Business Analyst. The full-time coding bootcamp takes 13 weeks while the part-time program spans six months since those classes meet during the evenings and some Saturdays. The data analytics program is six weeks and the business analyst program is nine weeks.

Regardless of the bootcamp you choose, each one ends with a capstone project. MAX students begin working on these projects on day one of their bootcamp. This project is designed to help show employers what you’ve learned and what you’re capable of doing once you join the workforce.

Class Formats

MAX offers extremely flexible class formats to ensure its courses are as accessible as possible. There are in-person instructor-led training sessions that can be combined with virtual instructor-led training. This may look like an instructor in a classroom delivering a lesson to other students that are physically present, while other learners join the class remotely. With this method, students are still able to interact with each other and with their instructors.

Many courses can also be completed via eLearning or on-demand. These courses are completed at the pace of the learner and can be done whenever is most convenient for them. Finally, MAX has a course format called blended learning, which can be a mixture of the previous three methods and is designed to be flexible to your budget and time limitations. For example, a student can complete a portion of the course through eLearning and only join for sessions that need to be taught by an instructor.

Admissions Process

The public course catalog does not have a formal application or admissions process. On the webpage for the specific course you’re interested in, there will be a list of prerequisite courses (if needed) and recommended background information a student will need to make sure you will benefit from and understand the course.

For admission to one of MAX Technical’s bootcamps, the process is more involved. Before even applying, the school recommends that potential students utilize some free resources to get more familiar with coding language and some basic skills. MAX also provides applicants with a screening test to help determine which bootcamp might be the best fit for you.

Once you’ve selected your desired bootcamp from the available options, you can learn about the class in more detail. The webpage for each bootcamp explains the syllabus and prerequisites in more detail. Each course has a slightly different application process; some require entry assessments before an application can be submitted, and some require a typing test.

Pricing & Payment Options

MAX Technical Training’s public courses generally cost around $1995 for a three-day course and between $3190-$4200 for a five-day course. The bootcamp prices can be found in their school catalog, which is updated every so often. Current bootcamp pricing is $14,000 for the coding bootcamps, $15,000 for the Business Analyst program, and $10,000 for the Data Analytics program.

MAX Technical Training offers a few different scholarship options for its students. Scholarships are available for women in IT, veterans, and one scholarship is awarded annually to a high school student who is interested in a career in IT after graduation. In addition to the veteran scholarships, MAX also accepts payment through the GI Bill.

If these scholarships are not available to you, MAX Technical has also partnered with Ascent Loans to help students fund their education. Students enrolled in a bootcamp also have the option to enroll in a tuition repayment program, which allows them to forgo making payments toward tuition until they are hired after graduation.

Career Support Services

Career support is available to students from the moment they enter the program. The services available in this department include resume writing, salary negotiation, and job fairs. MAX Technical’s bootcamps also end with a Demo Day, where students can present their body of work for hiring partners. Demo Day also includes speed interviews with the same network of employers.

Alumni Outcomes

MAX Technical Training has not offered any official alumni outcome report. Their website does briefly mention that their graduates have a 97% job placement rate and their alumni earn an average annual salary of $56,000.

What Do Students Say?

Many graduates from MAX Technical Training have shared their thoughts of the program on review websites. Reviewing these sites is one way that prospective students can determine which program will be the best fit for them.

Several MAX graduates pointed out that the school has a very friendly and collaborative environment. The career support services are also repeatedly highlighted as a positive aspect of the program. One reviewer stated that “The biggest asset [MAX Technical] provided me with was their network of IT employers/contacts in the greater Cincinnati area. While I had applied to many jobs and had some interviews myself, ultimately it was a referral from MAX Technical to Ohio National Financial that landed my first position outside the bootcamp.” Even though the programs are challenging at times, many students reported that the staff was always encouraging and gave them the confidence to keep going.

Some students did feel that a handful of concepts are covered too quickly during the program. Depending on their previous computer experience, some learners may benefit from a slower pace. Others suggested that the courses should be broken up into separate classes based on the coding experience of individual students. This way, some courses can spend a bit more time on the basics and nobody will feel like they’re getting left behind.
