Certificate in Digital Publishing

Certificate in Print Design Noble Desktop is proud to offer a Certificate in Digital Publishing program, approved by the New York State Department of Education. Once completed, students will be fully equipped with the skills they need to be up to date with cutting-edge Digital Publishing techniques. Our program covers InDesign, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, and Illustrator, ranging in levels from beginner to advanced skills that are specifically geared towards the modern digital publishing landscape. With a grand total of 138 hours of intensive, step-by-step training, students will have the foundation they need to master the growing field of Digital Publishing. Students who already have some of these skills (or have equivalent experience) need only take the remaining classes to complete the certificate.

Program Cost

The cost for the ten courses comprising the Certificate in Digital Publishing would normally be $7475 if taken separately. However, we offer the complete program at a special price of $6000. If students have previously taken one or more of the courses in the program, they can finish the program and a discount will be offered so that the final price to complete the program is $6000 or less. If students have equivalent experience in any of the programs above, our standard discounts will be applied to other courses necessary to complete the certificate.

InDesign CS5

Designed for those who are Mac or Windows literate, InDesign is covered comprehensively, including basic layout, text and graphics manipulation, drawing tools (bezier curves), color creation and application, style sheets, master pages, multiple pages, baseline grid, hyphenation, libraries, indexing, book creation, and much more. Essential typography rules are also covered.

eMagazines with InDesign

Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite is being used to create magazines such as Wired, Martha Stewart and more. Now that it's been released to the public, you can learn how to create digital magazines for devices such as the iPad and Android tablets. You create layouts in InDesign like you currently do, but now you can add additional functionality like video, slideshow, 360° panoramas, horizontal/vertical layouts and more.

Dreamweaver CS5

The single most powerful tool for creating web pages is Adobe Dreamweaver. It allows you to create a page visually—like all good graphics programs. First, you’ll be introduced to the programming basics of HTML and CSS, the coding languages of the web. Then you’ll explore the powerful visual design side of Dreamweaver. You can easily layout webpages and add complicated JavaScript functions at the click of a mouse.

eBooks with InDesign & Dreamweaver CS5.5

Making eBooks is a very different process than creating print books. Let us show you how it’s done. We’ll teach you how to create ePub files that work on Apple’s iPad, iPhone, Nook and other eReaders, as well as how to create Mobi files for Amazon’s Kindle. Please note: You must take Dreamweaver (or have equivalent experience) before taking this course.

Dreamweaver CS5 Advanced

We’ll take CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) way beyond text styling and see what they can really do. You’ll learn how to lay out webpages using <div> tags. You’ll center align div tags and create 2 and 3 column layouts using relative positioning. You’ll learn how to float elements into position, how “inline” versus “block” elements work, how to create better rollovers with CSS instead of JavaScript, and much more. CSS page layout gives you the ultimate power to change a website's entire design by changing a few styles.

Dreamweaver CS5 Interactive

In this course you’ll start by learning the fundamentals of JavaScript code. Knowing even the basics will empower you to write your own scripts as well as use freely available JavaScript frameworks (code written for you) such as the industry standard jQuery. Learn how to create animated slideshows with transitions like fades or slides. Create animated image enlargers, show/hide additional content, build nice looking menus and more. You’ll even learn how to use cookies to remember a visitor’s custom settings the next time they visit your site.

HTML Email

HTML email has become a staple of communication. Everyone can benefit from sending HTML email, from large corporations to small businesses and freelancers. Give your emails some personality and life! This class will cover building a simple one-time email, and a weekly newsletter format. You'll learn how to layout emails using tables, apply email-friendly CSS, make a table of contents, and fix various email client issues.

Fireworks CS5

Adobe Fireworks is a powerful image editor used for creating complex sliced images, animated GIFs, and web graphics of all sorts. In this class you will create animated banners, complex sliced graphics, and buttons of all shapes and sizes. We’ll show you how to mix and match JPEG and GIF graphics, do complex rollover effects, and create image maps which trigger other image rollovers.

Photoshop CS5

An introductory through intermediate level Adobe Photoshop class, with an emphasis on understanding the elements of an image, from pixels to halftone dots. You will work on dozens of images! Projects include everything from simple color correction to complex photo retouching, providing an overview from scanned image to printed piece. The course covers retouching, layers, masks, paths, channels, special filters, trapping, and much much more!

Illustrator CS5

A completely hands-on approach to creating illustrations, type and graphics with Adobe Illustrator. Students create numerous illustrations while strategies for easy execution are discussed and practiced. The course covers drawing, typography, compound paths, effects, basic 3D objects, layers, masks, patterns, blends, colors, and much more. At least three months experience with Mac or Windows required.
